His latest release, ‘The Adventures of the ParsleyFamily and the Dancing Snails’ is rambunctious, inspiring and shell-loads of fun!

Synopsis:

Take yourself on an adventure and follow the story of Trixie, a 9 year old girl, who befriends a group of snails in her garden and becomes their Snail Guardian! She takes her snails on adventures they never thought possible. They learn how to dance, have picnics and mix with other groups from all over the world. But with all these new and exciting adventures, will they manage to stay out of trouble?

“Every child loves a good book, but I became concerned at the shift in children’s fiction toward battles between good and evil, toilet humour and subjects that are less than innocent,” explains Read.“I felt it was time to create something that would hark back to a bygone era of storytelling; one where children could bask in the lighter side of life and learn a thing or two along the way. Hence, our family of snail guardians was born!”

Continuing, “The story is a cocktail of history, geography, appreciation for food, culture and of course it contains a lot…alot…of dancing! Early reader feedback has been extremely positive and I’ve got many new adventures up my sleeve.”

Read is correct, reviews have been five-star across the board. For example, one Amazon customer comments, “This is full of amazingimagination all children will love this book.”

Since Book 1 was published I have started to collect pottery and glass snails. We travel quite a bit and so the collection is from a number of countries. Their different styles, gives me ideas to give visiting snails a variety of identities. My latest one as of August 2016, is a glass snail from Estonia.

Grandfather-turned-author Michael Read’s debut children’s book is a garden of delights

How many kiddos can tell their friends, “ Did you know, my grandpa wrote a book about me and my sisters “? We’re guessing the answer is: not many. Except the grandkids of Michael Read , of course – the retired headteacher from Cambridge, England, has published his first children’s book inspired by his granddaughters in The Adventures of the Parsley Family and the Dancing Snails the first of an up coming trilogy that hopes to bring back a forgotten era of light-hearted story telling and tickles the funny bones of both children and adults.
Based in Whittlesea, a town in the Fen Land area of Cambridgeshire,UK, The Adventuresof the Parsley Family and the Dancing Snails invites you to join 9-year-old Trixie, her sisters Ella and Lizzy, and their parents as they embark on an adventure of history, geography, food and lots of dancing – all simply in their garden! The Parsley family members become Snail Guardians to the Essex Snails, the Beach Snails, the Norfolk;s and the Thunder Snails, who are always ready to come to the rescue (and are the author’s personal favourite!).
Despite gearing the book towards children 7 years and up TheAdventures of the Parsley Family and the Dancing Snails contains humour that even adults can appreciate, taking the focus of children’s fiction away from the overload of good vs. evil and less innocent plots present in storybooks today. Michael Read began working on the book to craft stories that would encourage his granddaughters (all of whom make up the three girls in the storyand have names that they chose) to believe in what they wish and continue their amazing imaginations. He even did the illustrations!
We reckon it’s a story you can enjoy reading to the bubbas over and over, and even inspire the little's to explore the out doors a little more! Also make sure you keep a look out for Book 2 at the end of the year mama, which will be bringing the stories up to date with gadgets like iPads and other modern Internet influences like U Tube and Facebook – we’re already preparedto have a hearty laugh!
My first book was entitled 'The Adventures of the Parsley Family and the Dancing Snails. The publishing deal I paid for priced the book far to high and it didn't sell so I had it withdrawn. The new book is a result of the 'expensive' lessons I have learnt.
The first Circle Snails book was published in 2018 by Choir Press with a 'Print on Demand' contract. There are now four books as of November 2019. See publicity material - scan down to Circle Snails!
